Do you struggle to read small print books? Do you have a friend or relative who loves to read but has given up? Many people would struggle to read these sentences or that of their favourite books simply because ‘standard’ type size is too small. We hope to help change that by featuring on an ongoing basis titles that are being published in large print - 16 point rather than the standard 10 point.

FOCUS is a new campaign which was launched earlier in the year by the RNIB and its publishing partners to make popular and bestselling books in Large Print easily available on the high street.

The great thing about the Large Print books is that they look exactly the same on the shelf as their standard type counterparts. The cover and content is exactly the same; it is only the type that is larger. All the books are published in a trade paperback format.
Having first launched in April 2009 FOCUS now has a range of great reads in Large Print appealing to a wide audience. The list now includes titles from bestselling authors Clive Cussler, Nicholas Drayson, Len Goodman, Cathy Kelly, Karin Slaughter, Barbara Taylor Bradford and Barbara Vine, Josephine Cox, Alan Titchmarsh and Wilbur Smith.
FOCUS was initiated and funded by the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB), the Publishers Licensing Society (PLS). The books are published by RNIB in association with BBC Audiobooks, HarperCollins, Hodder, Little Brown, Penguin, Random House.

What the Authors say:
“I am very pleased and honoured to be part of such a fantastic initiative to get Large Print books available on the high street. I welcome a scheme which allows everybody, regardless of age or 20-20 vision, the same access to a wider variety of literature.” Barbara Taylor Bradford
“Books present an opportunity to enter into a new world or see people in a different light - it's a way to travel the world or the universe without ever leaving your home. Reading is a gift that should not be denied anyone and books should be in Large Print if that helps more people enjoy their pastime.” Karin Slaughter
“I am delighted to be involved with such a worthwhile campaign that will benefit so many people, young and old. Now my mother will be able to read some good books - and her son's!" Nick Drayson
“Ever since contracting ME I have been unable to focus on print, so I know well the frustration of not being able to read. I have many friends who need large print, however, and the prospect of being able to browse in a bookshop and buy a large print book for a friend is delightful. More power to your elbow!” Katie Flynn
“I'm so happy to be included in this wonderful project. Books are doors. Any and everyone should be able to open a book and pass on through into the strange and intimate worlds inside.” Karen Joy Fowler
“Whatever the capabilities of our eyesight, we can still have 20:20 vision in our imagination. Reading is a gateway for the imagination, and I'm delighted and proud to be part of a project to make Large Print books more widely available to all readers.” Marina Lewycka
“Anything that makes reading easier is to be applauded – a bright light, a quiet room, large clear print…what could be more enticing. Focus has all my support – two of my books have come out in Large Print and it makes them even more fabulous I think.” Joanna Lumley
